Tanzania’s entertainment industry is mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars. Caroline Hawa, affectionately known by her screen name Carina, has died while undergoing medical treatment in India for a chronic stomach condition that she had battled for over eight years.
The news of her passing has left many in shock. Carina had travelled to India in search of lasting relief, holding onto hope that this latest phase of treatment would offer her a fresh start. Her younger sister, Safinewin Rwegasira, had accompanied her during the early stages of her treatment journey, but returned home temporarily to care for their ill mother.
In an emotional reflection, Safinewin recalled their last conversation — a late-night call just hours before Carina’s death. “She sounded hopeful, full of strength. She even spoke to our mother and said, ‘Mama, I pray I don’t leave this world before you. I still have promises to keep,’” Safinewin shared.

Carina was expected to return home on April 22 after completing her treatment. Her sudden death has left a deep void not just in her family but in the hearts of countless fans and fellow actors who admired her strength and spirit both on and off screen.
