Tanzania and Ukraine are opening a new chapter in their diplomatic relationship, with both countries expressing a strong commitment to deepen cooperation in economic and social sectors that matter most to their people.
The two nations made this promise during a high-level meeting between Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha. Their meeting took place in Turkey, on the sidelines of the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2025), a gathering of global leaders seeking to find common ground on pressing international issues.
In his remarks, Minister Kombo reflected on Tanzania’s longstanding policy of friendship with all nations. He said this partnership with Ukraine is an important opportunity to open more doors for Tanzanians — not just in trade, but also in areas like agriculture, industry, tourism, education, and health.
“Tanzania has always taken a neutral and peaceful approach on the global stage,” Kombo said. “We’re continuing that tradition by building bridges with Ukraine and other partners, to ensure Tanzanians have more chances to succeed — whether through job opportunities, better services, or international exposure.”
Kombo also emphasized that Tanzania is focused on attracting foreign investment, growing its tourism sector, and helping local producers find new markets abroad. The ultimate goal, he said, is to improve the quality of life for ordinary Tanzanians and increase the country’s income.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Sybiha praised Tanzania’s steady presence in international affairs and noted that its leadership on issues of peace and security is widely respected. He described Tanzania as a key partner for Ukraine, especially in Africa, and said his country is eager to cooperate more closely in infrastructure development — particularly in transportation and logistics — to boost economic growth on both sides.
“As we look beyond our own borders, we see Tanzania as a country we can work with closely,” Sybiha said. “We’re ready to explore new possibilities that bring benefits to our economies and our people.”
Minister Kombo is in Turkey not only for this bilateral meeting but also to engage with leaders from around the world during the diplomacy forum. The event offers a platform to strengthen Tanzania’s voice on global issues and find new partnerships that align with its development vision.
This renewed Tanzania–Ukraine partnership reflects a broader trend: nations finding new friends in an ever-changing world — and using diplomacy not just for politics, but for progress.
