The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), has reaffirmed Tanzania’s growing role on the international stage during a key presentation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security (NUU).

Speaking in Dodoma, Minister Kombo led a high-level delegation from the Ministry to update the committee on Tanzania’s diplomatic performance, highlighting progress made in strengthening ties with regional organizations such as the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

He told the lawmakers that Tanzania continues to uphold its commitment to regional integration and cross-border cooperation, with renewed efforts being made to deepen engagement in East Africa and beyond. Kombo said these partnerships are vital not just for diplomacy, but also for economic growth and long-term national development.

“This is a time when diplomacy must work for our people,” Minister Kombo said. “We are pursuing stronger international relations while ensuring that our partnerships bring direct benefits to Tanzanians, especially in areas of trade, security, and education.”

In his statement, the Minister also addressed how the Ministry has responded to Parliament’s earlier recommendations, pointing to measurable steps taken to implement those resolutions. He also shed light on the broader success of Tanzania’s foreign policy under the current administration, which he said has elevated the country’s global visibility.

According to Kombo, one of the Ministry’s priorities is to build on Tanzania’s reputation as a peaceful and cooperative nation, while tackling internal challenges that affect diplomatic efficiency. He noted that despite limited resources, the Ministry has made notable gains, particularly in expanding Tanzania’s voice in international forums.

Hon. Kombo was joined by Deputy Minister Hon. Cosato Chumi, as well as the Ministry’s Permanent Secretaries, Ambassador Samwel Shelukindo and Ambassador Stephen Mbundi. Their presence underscored a united leadership front as the Ministry pushes ahead with its goals.
