President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to receive the prestigious “The Gates Goalkeepers Award” today, a recognition of her outstanding leadership and the significant strides Tanzania has made in improving its healthcare sector.
This award is a testament to the country’s progress, with the latest demographic and health survey showing an impressive 80% reduction in maternal and infant mortality.
Health Minister Dr. Jenista Mhagama shared the news on February 3, 2025, during a press conference at the Ministry of Health in Dar es Salaam. She highlighted that this is the first time the award will be presented outside of the United States, and it’s particularly special as President Samia is the first African leader to receive the honor. This achievement marks a significant milestone for both the president and Tanzania’s healthcare system.
Dr. Mhagama credited Tanzania’s progress to several key initiatives that have been implemented under President Samia’s leadership.
