The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has deepened its academic and cultural ties with China following a significant donation of 200 books from the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

This marks the company’s second contribution to UDSM, underlining a shared vision for advancing education and cultural exchange between the two nations.

The donated collection spans diverse fields, including arts, history, science, and technology, offering students access to a broader spectrum of knowledge. At the handover ceremony, Dr. Collins Kimaryo, UDSM’s Acting Director of Library Services, commended the initiative, describing it as a meaningful addition to the university’s resources. “These books go beyond their academic value; they symbolize the deepening collaboration between our institutions and countries,” Dr. Kimaryo stated.

Li Xuecai, General Manager of CCCC, emphasized the broader implications of the event. “This is not just about books. It’s about fostering understanding and building bridges of cooperation. We’re proud to contribute to UDSM’s academic growth,” he said.

Strengthening Cultural Exchange

The donation aligns with UDSM’s goal to foster global perspectives among its students. Professor Aldin Mutembei, Director of the Confucius Institute at UDSM, expressed gratitude for the gesture, emphasizing the library’s growing role as a center for cross-cultural learning. “These books are a valuable resource, helping students engage with diverse worldviews, particularly insights into Chinese governance and culture,” he noted.

A Legacy of Collaboration

UDSM’s state-of-the-art library, gifted by the Chinese government in 2018, has become an integral part of academic life on campus. Housing over 800,000 volumes and equipped with modern facilities, the library represents a long-standing partnership that has bolstered educational opportunities for Tanzanian students.

The recent donation adds to this legacy, highlighting the potential of knowledge-sharing in cultivating future leaders and innovators. As students and faculty explore the new resources, the partnership between UDSM and China exemplifies how collaboration can drive meaningful progress in education.

Looking Ahead

This event underscores the transformative role of education in building global connections. By strengthening ties between Tanzania and China, the initiative is paving the way for further academic and cultural partnerships, inspiring a new generation of scholars to think beyond borders.
