Severe flooding hit Geita Town following intense rainfall, leaving major transit areas like the Main and Small Bus Terminals submerged and disrupting daily activities.
The deluge, which lasted for hours, has led to widespread damage, forcing passengers and residents to seek alternative means of transit as vehicles became immobilized in deep water. Small cars were particularly affected, with several left stranded or submerged at the bus terminals, creating scenes of disarray.
According to Regional Fire and Rescue Commander Hamisi Shabani Dawa, while no fatalities were reported, ten individuals sustained injuries from the flood’s effects, prompting swift emergency responses to assist stranded citizens. “This has been one of the heaviest rainfalls recently,” Dawa stated, noting that the emergency teams are continuing to provide support as they assess property damage across affected neighborhoods.
Residents and commuters expressed concern over the recurring flood issues in Geita, urging the municipal council to take immediate measures to improve the town’s drainage systems.
