President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, Dr. Tulia Ackson, emphasized the critical importance for nations, particularly those in the G7, to enhance international cooperation for global security and collective development.
Dr. Ackson’s remarks were made during her participation in the 22nd Meeting of the G7 Parliamentary Speakers held in Verona, Italy, on September 6, 2024.
In her address, Dr. Ackson highlighted the need for G7 countries to forge closer partnerships with African nations, treating them as equal stakeholders in the quest for global progress. She underscored that the current moment presents a unique opportunity for these nations to collaborate more effectively with Africa to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address global challenges.
The meeting, attended by parliamentary speakers from Italy, Germany, France, the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Parliament, Ukraine, and Tanzania, focused on uniting G7 countries with African and Mediterranean nations. The agenda included discussions on achieving sustainable development, promoting lasting peace, and leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle pressing issues.
