The government has approved the request of the residents of Maisome Island to be allocated 2,871.782 hectares for various community activities.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Dunstan Kitandula (MP), while responding to a question from Hon. Eric James Shigongo (MP), who wanted to know when the government would fulfill its promise to allocate a portion of the conservation area to the residents of Maisome Island, given that the population has increased.

Hon. Kitandula also added that the Cabinet approved the allocation of a total of 2,871.782 hectares from the 12,191.02 hectares of the conservation area, leaving the conservation area with 9,319.238 hectares.
Furthermore, Hon. Kitandula mentioned that the Ministry has already submitted a draft Government Notice (Notice of Intent to Declare Changes to the Maisome National Forest Reserve Area of 2024) to the Attorney General’s Office for review to complete the legal procedures for these changes.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister informed the parliament that the Ministry has completed the exercise of revising the boundary of the conservation area and re-surveying the remaining area; a new map of the area has already been prepared.
