Tragic Road Accidents Claim Six Lives

The first incident occurred in Iringa on Friday evening at around 7 PM, at Ipogolo slope within Iringa Municipality. A motorcycle, carrying three children from the same family and its rider, collided with a cargo truck with registration number RAG 450N. The motorcycle attempted to overtake the truck when it lost control and fell under the truck’s path.

Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of four individuals: Hassan Baurani (27), the motorcycle rider and resident of Ipogolo, and three young pupils of Ipogolo Primary School. The young victims were identified as Hellena Thomas (12), a standard seven pupil, Ally Tenywa (9), a standard one pupil, and Gabriel John (5), a kindergarten pupil.

In a separate incident in Wanging’ombe District, two additional fatalities were reported due to a collision involving multiple vehicles. Details surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

Acting Iringa Regional Police Commander Alfred Mbena expressed deep condolences to the families affected by these tragic events. He emphasized the importance of road safety and cautioned against reckless driving, urging all motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

Local authorities are continuing investigations into both accidents to determine the exact causes and any potential negligence involved. Efforts are underway to provide support and assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured survivor.
