Zanzibar Celebrate 60 Years Of Progress

Zanzibar marked a significant milestone on June 11, 2024, as the nation commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution and the Union of Tanzania.

The celebratory conference, held at the Dr. Mohamed Ali Shein Campus, brought together dignitaries and stakeholders to reflect on the country’s remarkable progress and chart a course for continued prosperity.

In his keynote address, President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi highlighted the advancements made across Zanzibar’s social, economic, political, and diplomatic sectors over the past six decades. “This anniversary is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Zanzibari people,” Dr. Mwinyi said. “We have overcome challenges and built a foundation for a brighter future.”

The President emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing key policies, including the Blue Economy, Investment, and Economic Diplomacy, and called upon the conference participants to offer their recommendations for consideration.

To further support education and capacity building, Dr. Mwinyi announced the allocation of funds for the construction of a new building for the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) Zanzibar. “Investing in our people is crucial for the sustainable development of our nation,” he stated.

“This conference is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable development, promoting good governance, and enhancing international cooperation,” said Dr. Amina Salum Ali, Director of the CFR. “As we celebrate our past successes, we must also look towards the future with renewed vigor and determination.”

The 60th anniversary celebration underscored Zanzibar’s dedication to building a prosperous and inclusive future for all its citizens. As the nation moves forward, it remains committed to addressing current challenges and advancing its development agenda, with the support and participation of its people.

“This is a momentous occasion for Zanzibar,” said Fatma Abdalla, a local business owner. “We have come so far, and I am confident that our collective efforts will continue to drive us towards an even brighter tomorrow.”
