The Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA) in Africa has been honored as the Best Airport serving under two million passengers on the continent.

This recognition comes from the annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards, hosted by the Airports Council International (ACI). These prestigious awards distinguish airports of excellence based on passenger feedback gathered through regular surveys conducted in departure and arrival areas worldwide.

The ASQ awards encompass various categories like Most Dedicated Staff, Smoothest Airport Journey, Most Pleasant Airport, and Cleanest Airport. The ACI officially declared the winners of these awards on March 11, 2024.

Mr. Seif Abdalla Juma, the director-general of the Zanzibar Airports Authority (ZAA), attributed this remarkable achievement to the government’s concerted efforts to attract substantial investments in the aviation sector.

Notably, the Zanzibar government sealed agreements with private companies on November 24, 2021, to manage the airport operations. The focus of these collaborations is to elevate passenger and cargo services while upholding safety standards.
