World Bank Prez Arrives In Dar For African Energy Summit

Aside Ajay Banga senior leaders and organizations who have arrived in the country are the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mr. Julius Maada Bio and President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

The President of the World Bank (WBG), Mr. Ajay Banga has arrived in the country to attend a meeting of African countries on energy known as “Mission 300”, which will take place from 27 to 28 January 2025 at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Center in Dar es Salaam. 
At Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam Mr Banga has been welcomed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Hon. Cosato Chumi on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Secretary -General of the Ministry of Finance Dr. Natu Rock, Ambassador to Tanzania in the United States Hon. Eelsie Kanza, World Bank Resident Representative in Mr. Nathan Belete and other senior government officials.
The conference aims to bring together African Heads of State and important stakeholders in the energy and financial sectors to discuss how to access reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for 300 million people in Africa by 2030.
The World Bank has been an important partner in supporting energy access projects in the country and in Africa in various ways including funding grid expansion projects, renewable energy development, small grid and policy support, and facilitating private sector participation inThe energy sector, while focusing on reaching out to communities that have not been reached by energy service.
In addition to the President of the World Bank, other senior leaders and organizations who have arrived in the country are the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mr. Julius Maada Bio and President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
Mission 300 - Africa Energy Summit
Poja and other matters are expected to approve and sign the African Energy Compact, sign the first phase of national energy programs for the five -year 2025 – 2030 years (National Energy Compacts) and approve the Dar es’s declaration A gestation of a meeting ofDar es Salaam Declaration on Africa Heads of State Energy Summit which will include 14 countries of Tanzania, DRC, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Chad, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria , Senegal and Zambia.
Tanzania is one of the African countries that is doing well in the energy sector, where until December 2024, electricity production in mainland Tanzania had reached 3,169.20 Megawatts, which is an increase from 14 percent in 2011 to 78.4 percent in 2020. At the same time through the Rural Electricity Distribution Program (REA), almost all villages in the country have been reached by Electricity Service.
