Wasira Defends Samia’s Leadership Amid Online Attacks

He noted that under her leadership, Tanzania has managed to sustain growth, strengthen infrastructure, and rebuild international partnerships.
October 9, 2025

In a lively campaign rally on October 9, 2025, seasoned politician Stephen Wasira stood before a cheering crowd to express his strong support for Samia Suluhu Hassan, describing her as a courageous and results-driven leader who has steered the nation through some of its most challenging times.

Wasira, the Deputy Chairperson of the ruling party, urged Dr. Samia not to be distracted by what he called “online noise,” referring to social media users who spread misinformation and negativity. “There are a few people misusing social media,” he said. “Just like beans that never soften even when cooked, those few individuals will always float on the surface — they make noise but can’t shake the country.”

He reminded the audience how Dr. Samia rose to leadership in 2021 following the sudden passing of her predecessor, the late John Pombe Magufuli, at a time when the country was still grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic in Tanzania. “Back then, she only said two words — ‘Work continues.’ And indeed, four years later, the work has continued,” he said, drawing applause from the thousands gathered in Bunda.

Wasira commended Dr. Samia for maintaining peace, unity, and economic progress despite political pressure and global uncertainty. He noted that under her leadership, Tanzania has managed to sustain growth, strengthen infrastructure, and rebuild international partnerships.

He also cautioned voters against entrusting leadership to inexperienced politicians. “Running a country is not a rehearsal,” he said firmly. “You give power to someone you trust to lead wisely and protect the interests of the people. Our country needs continuity, not experimentation.”

Addressing the rally, Dr. Samia echoed the call for stability and progress, saying that the coming election is about choosing between disruption and development. “Let’s stay united, focused, and determined to move Tanzania forward,” she told supporters.

Her speech, calm yet confident, resonated with many in attendance. For residents of Bunda, the event was not just a campaign rally — it was a reminder of how far the nation has come under her leadership and the importance of unity in times of change.

Wasira’s passionate defense of Dr. Samia’s record is seen as a strong message to critics and an affirmation of the continuity agenda heading into the 2025 general elections.
