The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has handed over the Civil Society Election Manifesto to the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

The CCM Deputy Secretary-General for Mainland, John Mongela, expressed gratitude to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for preparing their manifesto, which contains important recommendations for the nation.

Mongela extended his thanks after receiving the CSO manifesto, stating that they would use it as a reference for their party, as they had implemented some recommendations from previous manifestos. He noted that some of these issues, including the proposal for a new constitution, are still in progress.

Earlier, while presenting the key points of the “Tanzania We Want” manifesto, lawyer Olengurumwa emphasized the importance of proposing a new constitution, stating that it serves as a guide for all critical matters concerning the nation. Representing the voice of the entire society, the CSOs recommend that this issue be addressed.

Olengurumwa explained that the main goal is to ensure that all political parties develop a manifesto aligned with current social service priorities.

“We, THRDC, are not aligned with any political side, nor do we seek to take power or govern the country. However, it is our responsibility to ensure that parties aiming for these goals create a manifesto that addresses essential matters. We are distributing this manifesto to all political parties, regardless of their size,” Olengurumwa stated.

He added that it is crucial for leaders to strengthen and respect human rights, instead of allowing people to disappear or be killed under mysterious circumstances.

“A nation that respects human rights also sees greater economic growth because when people have freedom and stability, accountability increases,” Olengurumwa added.
