Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Doto Biteko, has appointed eight members to the board of the government-owned Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), effective next Monday.

The newly appointed board members are Dr. Lucy-Mary Mboma, Eng. Isaac Chanji, Boma Raballa, Grace Philotea Joachim, Sister Hellen Bandiho, Ambassador Zuhura Bundala, Prof. Ninatubu Lema, and Prof. Idris Kikula.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan dissolved the previous board in December, which was appointed by former Energy Minister January Makamba. Dr. Rhimo Nyansaho, a banker, chairs the current board.

Tanesco has for years grappled with inconsistent power supply, something that the new board will have to address.
