Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, joined global dignitaries on Tuesday to mark a major milestone in Vietnam’s history — the 50th anniversary of national unification.

Held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30, 2025, the celebration commemorated five decades since the end of the Vietnam War and the country’s reunification. Minister Kombo was invited as a special guest by Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Bui Thanh Son, reflecting the warm and growing relationship between the two nations.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, General Luong Cuong, offered emotional reflections on the country’s journey from war to peace. “Even after 50 years, the memories of our difficult past remain vivid,” he said. “I am moved every time we remember the heroes who gave everything for the future of our nation — and the Vietnamese mothers who sacrificed their sons and husbands. Their courage shaped the Vietnam we know today.”

The event brought together heads of state, diplomats, and international representatives. Among the African nations invited were Tanzania, Angola, and Mozambique — a rare and significant honor that underscores the importance of these relationships to Vietnam.

During his visit, Minister Kombo also held discussions with Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Hon. Pham Minh Chinh. The two leaders explored ways to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, tourism, agriculture, industry, education, and the blue economy. They shared a mutual commitment to boosting economic ties and strengthening diplomatic relations for the benefit of both countries.

Kombo’s three-day visit concluded on April 30, leaving behind a renewed sense of partnership between Vietnam and Tanzania. His presence at the national celebration sent a strong message of solidarity and respect, highlighting the potential for closer cooperation between nations that share a common vision for peace, progress, and mutual prosperity.

Vietnam’s commemorations featured grand military parades, artistic performances, and modern light displays, including an impressive drone show and fireworks — all serving as a testament to the country’s evolution from a war-torn past to a forward-looking, unified future.
