Tanzania is gearing up to host a major international event aimed at promoting Africa’s rich culinary heritage and boosting economic opportunities in the food tourism sector.
The Second United Nations Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa is set to take place in Arusha from April 23 to 25, 2025. The event will bring together over 300 industry experts, policymakers, and food enthusiasts from across Africa and beyond to explore ways in which gastronomy can contribute to sustainable economic growth.
Gastronomy tourism—centered around the selection, preparation, and appreciation of food—has gained recognition as a key driver for cultural preservation and economic development in Africa. The forum will serve as a platform to showcase the continent’s diverse food traditions while encouraging investment in the culinary industry.
Speaking during a press briefing on February 19, 2025, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, emphasized the importance of the event, noting that agriculture is a lifeline for more than half of Tanzania’s population.
“This forum presents a unique opportunity for our country. It will not only highlight our cultural identity through food but also create economic opportunities for farmers, chefs, and entrepreneurs in the food and tourism industries,” Dr. Chana stated.
She added that Tanzania is committed to advancing culinary education and ensuring that the country’s traditional dishes remain an integral part of its tourism experience.
The forum, which officially opened by President Samia, will feature live cooking demonstrations, panel discussions, and cultural exhibitions.ch will be off

A representative from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) expressed excitement about Tanzania hosting the forum, stating that it will be a milestone in positioning the country as a leading gastronomy tourism destination in Africa.
The inaugural edition of the forum took place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, in 2024, and its success set the stage for this year’s event in Tanzania.
