Tanzania is continuing to strengthen its strategic position in the global mining sector following its participation in the international Mining Indaba 2026 conference scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from February 8 to 12, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Minerals on February 6, 2026, the Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, is expected to lead Tanzania’s delegation to the high-level gathering, which will bring together government leaders, investors, major mining companies, financial institutions, and other stakeholders from around the world.
The ministry said Tanzania’s participation forms part of the national strategy to position the country as a key partner in the global mineral value chain, especially at a time when Africa — including Tanzania — is increasingly recognized as a critical source of minerals needed for clean energy technologies and global industrial development.

During the conference, Mavunde is expected to take part in the Mining Ministers’ Meeting organized by South Africa’s Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe. He will also participate in high-level panel discussions involving fellow mining ministers, chief executives of leading global mining corporations, investors, and representatives of financial institutions.

The statement noted that discussions will focus on policy innovation, strategies for mining sector development, improvement of the investment climate, capital mobilization, and opportunities in critical and strategic minerals across Africa. The sessions are designed to promote sustainable sector growth while strengthening competitiveness and long-term returns.
On the sidelines of the conference, the minister is also scheduled to hold strategic bilateral meetings with key stakeholders, including investors from the United States, the European Union, and other regions. The meetings are aimed at attracting new investment, reinforcing partnerships with existing investors, and expanding commercial cooperation.
Members of Tanzania’s delegation are likewise expected to engage in various technical and business forums with international stakeholders to identify commercial partners, exchange expertise, and promote Tanzania’s mining opportunities in global markets.

The Tanzanian delegation will include experts from the Ministry of Minerals and its affiliated institutions, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), and private sector representatives. These include the Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM), the Federation of Miners Associations of Tanzania (FEMATA), the Tanzania Young Miners Organization (TYM), and the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA). Mining companies, financial institutions, service providers to the mining industry, traders, and other actors across the mineral value chain are also part of the delegation.
Through the Mining Indaba platform, Tanzania plans to showcase a range of available investment opportunities while emphasizing the government’s commitment to increasing in-country value addition for minerals. The government is also highlighting its objective of ensuring that the mining sector contributes more significantly to economic growth, job creation, and community development.
Mining Indaba 2026 will be held under the theme “We Are Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnership,” underscoring the importance of collaboration among governments, the private sector, and development institutions in building a sustainable, competitive, and high-impact mining industry across Africa.
