The Tanzania Police Force has detained two traffic officers following allegations of misconduct that surfaced in a video widely shared on social media.
The video, which sparked public concern, shows the officers engaged in questionable behavior during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.
Speaking to reporters, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumanne Muliro confirmed the arrests of the male and female officers. “The two officers are currently in custody and are under investigation. Disciplinary measures will be implemented before any legal proceedings are initiated,” Muliro said.
He emphasized the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining public trust and ensuring accountability within its ranks. “Such conduct is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of the Police Force. We will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone who violates ethical standards,” Muliro stated.
The video, reviewed by several media outlets, depicts a commuter vehicle being stopped by the officers for inspection. Shortly after, the vehicle drives a few meters ahead, and the conductor is seen running back to hand an unspecified item to one of the officers. The nature of the exchange has raised questions, but no clear conclusions have been drawn yet.

Once the investigation is complete, appropriate actions will be taken to uphold justice and accountability,” he said.
This case highlights the challenges facing the Police Force as it works to maintain its reputation and restore public confidence. The arrests are seen as a step toward addressing internal misconduct, and many hope the outcome will set a precedent for future cases.
