Tanzania is stepping up its efforts to expand clean energy access through deeper ties with Morocco, following a high-level visit by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dennis Londo, to the headquarters of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN).

During the meeting with MASEN’s Director General, Tariki Ameziane Moufaddal, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in renewable energy initiatives—particularly the generation of electricity and scaling up access to clean cooking energy, a growing priority across the African continent.

Both sides agreed to appoint technical teams that will oversee the implementation of proposed initiatives, ensuring they translate into real-world impact, especially in communities where traditional energy access remains limited.

MASEN’s director praised Tanzania’s progress in energy infrastructure development, calling the country a “model for Africa” in its efforts to make sustainable and affordable energy accessible to all.

The Tanzanian delegation included Ambassador Ali Mwadini, who represents the country in France, along with senior representatives from key government agencies such as TANESCO, the Rural Energy Agency (REA), the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and the Ministry of Energy.

The visit comes at a time when both nations are increasing their investment in green technology and climate-friendly policies. Morocco, widely recognized for its pioneering Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex—one of the world’s largest solar power plants—offers valuable experience for Tanzania as it looks to modernize its own energy systems.

The leaders also explored opportunities for joint training programs and research in energy innovation, part of a broader push to build capacity and drive technology transfer between African states. As the world shifts toward more sustainable energy sources, this emerging partnership is expected to benefit not just Tanzania and Morocco, but also the broader region through shared expertise and coordinated development goals. It aligns with global frameworks like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
