President Samia Suluhu Hassan has underscored the critical role of national security in supporting Tanzania’s economic growth, highlighting that a stable and secure environment is essential for investment and citizen prosperity.

Her remarks came during the inauguration of the new National Defence Headquarters at Kikombo in Dodoma on February 24, 2026.

“Economic progress reflects the strength of our security and stability. Without peace, investment cannot flow, and citizens’ welfare cannot be sustained,” she said. President Samia emphasized that the true strength of the military lies not in modern facilities or advanced weaponry, but in patriotism, discipline, and loyalty to the constitution.

Addressing the nation’s commanders and soldiers, she reminded them to honor their oaths and maintain conduct that preserves the reputation of the military, which Tanzanians have long trusted and respected. She added that the responsibility to safeguard peace extends beyond uniformed forces, calling on every citizen to contribute to national security and stability.

The President also linked recent positive evaluations of Tanzania’s economic outlook to strong institutional and security frameworks. Moody’s recently reaffirmed Tanzania’s investment profile at B1, a rating signaling growing investor confidence. President Samia highlighted that such recognition is rooted in the country’s commitment to stable governance and robust security structures.

“This government will continue to invest in defense to match the pace of our economic growth. A nation that wishes to be respected globally must maintain strong institutions to protect its sovereignty, borders, and resources,” she said.

Observers note that Tanzania’s integrated approach—where security governance and economic planning are coordinated—sets a strong example in the region. Countries with stable security conditions are more likely to attract foreign direct investment, strengthen trade partnerships, and support domestic innovation.

By linking defense, peace, and economic prosperity, Tanzania aims to ensure sustainable development while maintaining confidence among investors and citizens alike. The President’s address reinforces the principle that national growth and security are inseparable, forming the foundation for long-term stability and progress.
