Senior officials from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the United States met in Antananarivo for the inaugural SADC–U.S. Senior Officials Dialogue Forum.
The event represents a major step in strengthening cooperation between the two partners.
Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Samwel Shelukindo, headed the Tanzanian delegation, emphasizing the country’s active role in regional integration and international collaboration.
During the opening session, SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Angeles N’Tumba, highlighted that the forum will focus on key issues including peace and security, healthcare, economic development, and the sustainable management of natural resources, such as energy and minerals. She described the dialogue as a platform for crafting guidelines to guide future SADC–U.S. cooperation.

Officials noted that the forum underlines a shared commitment to promoting stability, economic growth, and sustainable development across Southern Africa. It also aims to strengthen partnerships with global stakeholders while addressing pressing regional challenges.
The dialogue is expected to yield practical initiatives that will enhance regional integration, create new economic opportunities, and contribute to a more resilient and interconnected Southern African region.
