Tanzania is set to experience varied weather conditions over the next 24 hours, with sunshine, intermittent rainfall and strong winds expected across different parts of the country, according to the latest official forecast released by national weather authorities.

The outlook, which takes effect from the early hours of December 17, highlights how seasonal atmospheric changes continue to influence daily weather patterns across Tanzania. Meteorologists say the forecast reflects a transition period in which some regions will receive rainfall while others remain mostly dry but cloudy.

Southern regions, including Lindi, Mtwara, Mbeya and Songwe, are expected to record cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rainfall in some areas. These conditions are likely to provide relief to farmers while also raising concerns about temporary disruptions to transport and outdoor activities.

Similar weather is anticipated in western parts of the country such as Kigoma, Tabora, Katavi, Singida and Rukwa, where cloud cover is expected to dominate much of the day. Rainfall in these regions is forecast to be scattered rather than widespread, occurring mainly in the afternoon and evening.

Along the coast, including Dar es Salaam and neighbouring areas, weather conditions are expected to be partly cloudy with isolated showers. Coastal temperatures are likely to remain warm both during the day and at night, reflecting the moderating influence of the ocean. The islands of Unguja and Pemba are also forecast to experience cloudy intervals with occasional rain.

In northern and north-western regions such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Mwanza, Kagera, Simiyu and Shinyanga, residents should expect a mix of sunshine and cloudiness, with light rainfall in selected areas. Highland zones may experience cooler night temperatures, especially in areas like Njombe, where conditions tend to be colder compared to lowland regions.

Temperature readings across major cities are expected to range between the mid-20s and low-30s degrees Celsius during the day. Cooler nights are forecast for high-altitude areas, while coastal regions and islands are likely to remain relatively warm throughout the night.

Strong winds have also been highlighted as a significant feature of the forecast. Coastal areas are expected to experience moderate to strong winds blowing mainly from the northeast, while parts of the southern coast could record stronger gusts. Marine conditions in sections of the Indian Ocean may be rough, prompting caution among fishermen and small boat operators.

Weather experts note that these conditions are shaped by broader weather forecasting systems driven by atmospheric circulation and ocean currents. Such systems determine how rainfall, wind and temperature patterns are distributed across the region.

Authorities have advised the public to remain alert and make use of daily updates, particularly those whose livelihoods depend heavily on weather conditions. Farmers are encouraged to plan their activities carefully to maximise benefits from rainfall while minimising potential losses. Fishermen and marine transport operators have been urged to take precautions due to strong winds and high waves.

As global climate change continues to influence weather behaviour, experts stress that extreme and unpredictable conditions are becoming more common. This makes timely and accurate forecasts increasingly important for public safety, economic planning and disaster preparedness.

The latest forecast underscores the role of Tanzania’s meteorological services in providing reliable information to support communities, businesses and government agencies. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official updates, as weather conditions may change over the coming days.
