Experts and key players from Tanzania’s health and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors came together in Dar es Salaam to discuss innovative ways to improve the country’s healthcare services.
The meeting, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, marked the second day of a pivotal conference focused on advancing digital health systems to enhance service delivery for Tanzanians.
The event brought together professionals from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the health sector, and other partners to explore the role of technology in modernizing healthcare. One of the major highlights of the discussion was the introduction of the Digital Health Wallet, a new digital tool that could make healthcare services more accessible and efficient across Tanzania.
The Digital Health Wallet aims to empower individuals by allowing them to manage their health information securely, while ensuring healthcare providers have easy access to relevant data when needed. This digital solution is part of Tanzania’s larger push to improve healthcare services by integrating technology to make processes more streamlined and reduce administrative challenges.
Another critical point discussed was how to link health systems with Tanzania’s National Identity Number system. By doing so, officials aim to improve patient identification, ensuring that each individual is properly registered in the system and their health records are easily accessible. This integration is expected to improve both the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare delivery, particularly in rural areas where healthcare resources can be scarce.
During the discussions, it was clear that there was a shared commitment to using technology to bridge gaps in Tanzania’s healthcare system. Stakeholders agreed that integrating digital tools, such as the Digital Health Wallet, could vastly improve the patient experience by making health services faster, more reliable, and more convenient.

With this system, people will have greater control over their health information, and healthcare providers will be better equipped to deliver timely care.
As Tanzania continues to embrace technology across various sectors, including health, the goal is to create a system that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all citizens. The dialogue at the meeting underscored the importance of working together to ensure that digital health innovations are implemented effectively, providing tangible benefits to the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
This collaboration is seen as a crucial step towards providing better, more accessible healthcare to all Tanzanians, and by harnessing the power of technology, the country hopes to deliver services that improve the well-being of its people and help build a healthier future for everyone.
