Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, Mwasipu clarified that Mwambe faces two allegations: one involving an alleged plan to harm the Inspector General of Police, and the other relating to incitement via social media.
December 15, 2025

The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has officially struck out a legal application filed by former government minister Geoffrey Mwambe against top law enforcement officials, following his release on bail.

The development brings a temporary pause to the high-profile legal proceedings that have attracted nationwide attention.

The application, registered as No. 289778/2025, had been filed by Mwambe against the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and the Head of Criminal Investigations for the Dar es Salaam Special Zone (ZCO DSM). The former minister’s legal team argued that his rights were violated during the investigative process. However, during proceedings on Monday, 15 December 2025, Mwambe’s lawyer, Hekima Mwasipu, informed the court that her client had already been granted bail on 14 December, rendering the case for the application moot. The prosecution did not oppose the withdrawal, and the court formally removed the matter from its active docket.

Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, Mwasipu clarified that Mwambe faces two allegations: one involving an alleged plan to harm the Inspector General of Police, and the other relating to incitement via social media. She emphasized that Mwambe has complied fully with bail conditions, including reporting to the designated police station early Monday morning, and has been instructed to return for further investigations after seven days. She also stressed that the ongoing investigations remain active.

Mwambe, who previously served as a government minister and remains an influential figure in Tanzanian politics, was first arrested on 7 December 2025 in the Tegeta area of Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam. His arrest triggered widespread public interest and prompted urgent legal action, including the filing of the court application that was dismissed on Monday.

Authorities have called for calm, reminding the public that all legal matters should follow the proper investigative and judicial processes. Political analysts have noted that high-profile legal cases in Tanzania often attract significant attention, particularly when they involve prominent political figures.

While Monday’s ruling marks a temporary resolution in the courtroom, the legal journey for Mwambe continues as investigations proceed, reflecting the balance between individual rights and public safety in Tanzania’s judicial system.
