A heavy cloud of grief hung over Mwongozo Cemetery in Kigamboni on Tuesday afternoon as the body of the late Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, former Kigamboni Member of Parliament and World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Region Director-Elect, was laid to rest.
Hundreds of mourners, including family, friends, and prominent figures from across the country and beyond, gathered to pay their respects to the visionary leader.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa led the mourners in honoring Dr. Ndugulile, who was widely respected for his significant contributions to public health and his leadership within the Tanzanian government. Among the dignitaries present were Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Tulia Ackson, various members of parliament, and a representative from the World Health Organization, all of whom shared heartfelt tributes to Ndugulile’s enduring legacy.
Earlier in the day, Health Minister Jenista Mhagama led the mourners, including residents of Kigamboni, in a moving tribute at Tungi Grounds, where they had gathered to bid their final farewells. Many remembered Dr. Ndugulile as not just a politician, but as a tireless advocate for public health, a man who dedicated his life to improving the lives of others, particularly in his beloved Kigamboni district.
Dr. Ndugulile’s career was marked by a strong commitment to improving healthcare systems both in Tanzania and across the African continent. His vision and work at the World Health Organization were seen as key to advancing health initiatives in Africa, particularly in addressing the challenges of infectious diseases, maternal health, and health infrastructure development.
His sudden passing at the age of 58 has left a significant void, particularly in the fields of public health and policy. Mourners at the cemetery reflected on his integrity, hard work, and passion for serving the people, remembering him as a leader who always put the well-being of his constituents first.
