The Tanzanian government is making substantial progress in implementing a series of road and bridge projects, totaling 77 initiatives, currently underway across the country.
Spearheaded by the national road agency, these projects are valued at approximately TSh 4.6 trillion and aim to improve transportation efficiency, access, and economic connectivity in both urban and rural regions.
Already, 25 road projects, covering 1,198 kilometers, have been successfully completed, with a total expenditure of TSh 1.68 trillion since President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office. These projects have enhanced crucial routes, easing travel and contributing significantly to the country’s transportation network.
During an inspection visit to the ongoing Dodoma Outer Ring Road construction, Chief Engineer Mohamed Besta provided updates on the infrastructure developments. This road, which is currently being paved in its second phase, will cover approximately 60 kilometers, linking Ihumwa Dry Port with Matumbulu and Nala. Once completed, this vital route will enable more efficient movement of goods and people across Tanzania’s rapidly expanding capital.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure, Engineer Besta emphasized that President Samia has prioritized road and bridge construction since her tenure began, focusing on facilitating transport and trade across Tanzania. “The current administration has made major strides to ensure our roadways can support economic growth and development,” he stated.
These infrastructure improvements reflect the Tanzanian government’s broader economic vision, under which road and bridge projects play an integral role. The government’s investment is expected to create job opportunities, support the local economy, and enhance accessibility to essential services, especially in remote areas.

The comprehensive Dodoma Outer Ring Road project is one of the government’s flagship initiatives, designed to bolster Dodoma’s strategic importance as a national transport hub. Expected to ease congestion, promote trade, and support local industries, the new ring road will contribute to Dodoma’s urban development by facilitating traffic flow and enabling a more efficient supply chain. Once operational, this infrastructure will serve as a model for future projects aimed at modernizing Tanzania’s transportation system and improving its road capacity.
Further road projects, anticipated for completion in the coming years, will extend Tanzania’s network of paved and durable roadways across additional high-traffic areas. The government aims to create a robust transportation system that supports Tanzania’s transition to a middle-income economy by improving access to markets and reducing travel times for both personal and commercial traffic.
