SGR Train Fares Announced in Tanzania

The Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) has overseen the fare structuring to ensure affordability while maintaining the financial sustainability of the railway operations.

The Tanzanian government has announced the fare structure for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger train service, set to commence operations next month.

The new train service aims to enhance connectivity between major cities and promote economic growth in the region.

Fare Details:
1. Normal Class Train:
– Dar es Salaam to Dodoma: TSH 31,000
– Dar es Salaam to Morogoro: TSH 13,000

2. Express Train:
– Dar es Salaam to Dodoma:TSH 50,000
– Dar es Salaam to Morogoro: TSH 22,000

Children aged 4 to 12 years will pay half the adult fare, while those under 4 years travel for free.

Project Significance:

This project marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s transport infrastructure. The SGR trains, capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h, are expected to drastically reduce travel times. The journey between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro will now take about two hours, down from the current four to five hours

Implementation and Future Prospects:
