President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Chairperson of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), officially launched the party’s major fundraising drive ahead of the 2025 Tanzanian general election.
The event, held at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam, aimed to raise TZS 100 billion to finance campaign activities and strengthen CCM’s organisational capacity. Setting the tone for the evening, President Samia pledged TZS 100 million of her own, urging members, business leaders, and well-wishers to “come together and invest in our shared future.”
Her call was met with an outpouring of generosity. Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Mwinyi contributed TZS 50 million, while CCM Vice Chairperson (Mainland) Stephen Wasira, Vice President Dr. Phillip Mpango, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, Zanzibar’s Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, and the Speaker of the National Assembly each offered TZS 20 million.
The business community also played a starring role. Tanzanian miner Baraka Ezekiel Nyandu, praised for his entrepreneurial drive, made one of the evening’s largest single contributions at TZS 1.5 billion, followed by fellow miner Aidan Msigwa from Chunya, Mbeya, who gave TZS 1 billion. The mining sector’s collective contribution reached an impressive TZS 16.2 billion.

Corporate support was equally striking. Local conglomerate GSM pledged TZS 10 billion, underscoring the private sector’s engagement in the political process. Meanwhile, celebrated football club Young Africans SC (Yanga SC) pledged TZS 100 million, with its leadership attending in person to present the commitment.
By the close of the evening, CCM Secretary-General Emmanuel Nchimbi announced that the party had collected TZS 56.31 billion in cash and received TZS 30.2 billion in firm pledges — a combined TZS 86.5 billion, bringing the goal well within reach. The fundraising campaign will continue until October 28, the final day of electioneering.
President Samia, in her closing remarks, stressed that the drive was about more than campaign financing: “This is about unity, about every Tanzanian having a hand in shaping our country’s path forward,” she said to a round of applause.
