Russia-Trinidad and Tobago Mark 50YRS Of Bilateral Ties

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russia, then  Soviet Union and Trinidad and Tobago.

On June 6, 1974, the two countries formalized their bilateral ties when their permanent representatives to the United Nations signed the relevant agreement in New York.

Vladimir Kazimirov was appointed as the inaugural Soviet Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, concurrently serving in another diplomatic capacity.

Throughout the extensive period of Russian-Trinidadian cooperation, both nations have actively worked to enhance political dialogue and collaboration across various spheres.

In 2004, a protocol on political consultations was signed between the two countries, leading to meetings in Port of Spain in February 2005 and November 2017.

Additionally, a cooperation agreement was reached between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Trinidad and Tobago in 2005.

In 2019, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Paula-Mae Weekes, the 6th President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, in Moscow.

Russian citizens currently benefit from visa-free travel to Trinidad and Tobago, allowing for a stay of up to 90 days without interruption, thereby boosting tourism between the two nations.
