Russia and South Sudan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as the two countries mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
On August 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation James Pitia Morgan exchanged messages to commemorate the milestone.
The two foreign ministers described relations between Moscow and Juba as traditionally friendly, emphasizing that bilateral ties are built on mutual respect and consideration for each country’s interests.
In their messages, Lavrov and Morgan reaffirmed their governments’ commitment to deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation across a range of areas.
The anniversary comes as both countries seek to consolidate their diplomatic engagement and identify additional areas for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Russia and South Sudan established diplomatic relations in 2011, following South Sudan’s independence. Since then, the two countries have maintained diplomatic contacts and cooperation despite the challenges facing the world and the region.
The latest exchange between the foreign ministers signals continued interest from Moscow and Juba in strengthening political relations and broadening bilateral cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular political dialogue while exploring opportunities to develop practical partnerships in different sectors.
The 15th anniversary therefore represents not only a milestone in the history of Russia-South Sudan relations but also a reaffirmation of the two governments’ intention to build on existing ties and pursue closer cooperation in the years ahead.
