Russian President Vladimir Putin held discussions on Security and Economic cooperation with Mali’s leader Assimi Goita during a phone call on Wednesday, a development confirmed by both countries. This exchange followed a similar conversation between Putin and the leader of neighboring Niger.

Assimi Goita stated, “We discussed bilateral issues, particularly focusing on security and economic aspects. We have agreed to enhance collaboration in the fight against terrorism.” The Kremlin also affirmed this statement.

This diplomatic exchange is part of a series of discussions Putin has had with leaders from West and Central Africa following his recent re-election earlier this month.

Additionally, the Kremlin announced that Putin and the leader of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, had decided to strengthen political, economic, and humanitarian relations during a phone call on Wednesday.

In a separate call on Tuesday, Putin conferred with Niger’s leader, Abdourahamane Tiani, emphasizing the importance of bolstering their security cooperation.

Russia, aims to foster stronger connections with African nations, positioning Moscow as a supportive entity devoid of colonial history in the continent.

This exchange aligns with Putin’s diplomatic overtures to leaders across West and Central Africa since his reelection earlier this month.
