The training aimed at building the capacity of experts from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), provided by facilitators from Norway, Africa Statistics Office (Statfrica), and the East African Community, is expected to enhance the quality of preparing national income statistics as well as investment opportunities in the country.
The five-day training, aimed at improving the skills of the experts to enhance the quality of data used to compile national income statistics, was held in Dodoma and coordinated by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The Government Statistician, Dr. Albina Chuwa, stated that the training came at a crucial time when the National Bureau of Statistics for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar is working on improving national income statistics.
“I commend you for this training you have provided to our experts, as it has come at the right time. Currently, the National Bureau of Statistics for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar is working on improving national income statistics, and once it is completed, we will use the expertise we have gained from this training to enhance these statistics,” said Dr. Chuwa.

The Director of Economic Statistics, Daniel Masulwa, also noted that the training came at the right moment as the National Bureau of Statistics for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar is in the process of refining national income statistics, and the knowledge from this training will be applied to enhance the data.
The facilitators expressed that the training was highly successful due to the participants’ strong understanding, and they believe it will lead to improvements in preparing national income statistics.
“The training has been very successful, as participants demonstrated great understanding, and we believe it will bring about changes in the preparation of national income statistics,” said Janne Utkilen, Head of the Statistics Department of Norway.
Titus Kamatuka, a facilitator from Statfrica, mentioned that the training emphasized practical work over theory to build the experts’ capacity, and he is confident they will apply what they have learned to improve their data.
