Momba District Begins Mining Sodalite 50 tons have been mined

The Ministry of Minerals has continued its Mining Clinic in the Songwe Region at the district, ward, and village levels to address the issues and challenges faced by small-scale miners.

The Ministry of Minerals has continued its Mining Clinic in the Songwe Region at the district, ward, and village levels to address the issues and challenges faced by small-scale miners.

On July 4, 2024, Deputy Minister of Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, met with small-scale miners in Momba District to understand the challenges they face in their work areas.

During his visit to Chindi village in Msangano ward, Deputy Minister Dr. Kiruswa toured a small-scale Sodalite mining site and received a progress report. So far, the mine has produced 50 tons of sodalite. The main challenges identified were a lack of capital, the absence of a mineral appraiser in the production area, unreliable markets, and poor infrastructure.

In addition to sodalite mining, Dr. Kiruswa met with helium gas and salt miners, praising their efforts to develop these important economic projects.

The Member of Parliament for Momba, Condester Sichalee, thanked the Ministry of Minerals for initiating the mining clinic in the Songwe region. She noted that addressing the various challenges faced by miners would greatly benefit the region and advance the mining sector in Momba District.

On July 4, 2024, Deputy Minister of Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, concluded his special Mining Clinic tour in the Songwe region.
