Melania Trump to Host Russia-Ukraine Meeting

The planned White House gathering represents a further step in her involvement in humanitarian engagement between Moscow and Kyiv.
November 3, 2026

US First Lady Melania Trump is set to bring Russian and Ukrainian representatives together at the White House on November 5, 2026, in a diplomatic initiative following her involvement in securing a temporary ceasefire in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky.

The White House announced the planned meeting on Tuesday, November 3, describing the gathering as an “extraordinary moment in American history” and an unprecedented diplomatic initiative by an American First Lady.

According to the announcement, Melania independently initiated engagement between the two countries and helped secure a ceasefire in Oleshky and surrounding areas of Ukraine’s Kherson region to facilitate humanitarian assistance and civilian evacuations.

She is expected to deliver remarks on the humanitarian ceasefire at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, November 5, at the White House.

The initiative follows negotiations involving Russian, Ukrainian and American representatives aimed at establishing a temporary suspension of military operations in the area, allowing humanitarian supplies to reach civilians and providing safe passage for those wishing to leave the conflict zone.

The ceasefire, which took effect in late October, enabled humanitarian operations involving food, medicine and the evacuation of residents from Oleshky, a city under Russian occupation since 2022.

The operation was particularly important for elderly residents and other vulnerable civilians who had faced difficulties accessing essential supplies amid the continuing conflict.

According to reports, evacuation arrangements included buses and humanitarian convoys, with residents given options to relocate to territories under Ukrainian or Russian control. Melania Trump said nearly 800 people could be evacuated through the operation.

The planned White House gathering represents a further step in her involvement in humanitarian engagement between Moscow and Kyiv. However, the White House has not disclosed the identities of the representatives expected to attend or provided details about the meeting’s agenda.

The broader Russia-Ukraine war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has resulted in extensive destruction, displacement of millions of people and serious humanitarian challenges.

Previous diplomatic efforts involving the United States and other international actors have struggled to achieve a comprehensive settlement, with disagreements over territory, security guarantees and the future relationship between Moscow and Kyiv remaining major obstacles.

Although the Oleshky ceasefire is limited in geographical scope and does not represent an end to the wider war, the humanitarian arrangement demonstrates the possibility of cooperation between the two sides on specific civilian protection issues.

The November 5 meeting will therefore attract international attention as representatives of the two countries are expected to gather at the White House amid continuing diplomatic efforts to address the conflict.
