Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has stated that the government has not issued any directives to remove certificate teachers from their positions
instead, he has urged them to take advantage of the ongoing in-service training program to further their education and attain diploma qualifications through universities. Speaking today, Friday, October 11, 2024, to hundreds of teachers and stakeholders during the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day held in Bukombe District, Geita Region, Prime Minister Majaliwa emphasized that the government has made significant improvements in education policies and curricula across the country, which have included changing the minimum qualifications for primary school teachers to diploma or degree status.
“Along with these changes, the government acknowledges that there are still teachers who do not meet the qualifications of having a diploma or degree, and there is no directive to remove them from employment,” Prime Minister Majaliwa stressed. This statement comes in response to questions and concerns from many teachers regarding their future in the education system, particularly in light of recent changes to qualification criteria.
The Prime Minister called on all teachers without diploma or degree qualifications to seize the opportunity offered by the in-service training program, which enables them to enhance their education through universities. He explained that this program allows teachers to advance their qualifications through modules via the Learning Management System (LMS) under the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE).
Furthermore, Majaliwa urged teachers to recognize the importance of continuous learning to improve the quality of education in the country. “It is essential for teachers to continue learning so that they can provide high-quality education to students, who are the foundation of our nation. The government will continue to support these efforts by ensuring that teachers have adequate resources and assistance,” the Prime Minister added.
