Tundu Lissu, the Deputy Chairman of CHADEMA in mainland Tanzania, has officially announced his decision to pursue the party’s National Chairmanship in the upcoming elections, stepping away from his earlier intentions to contest the Deputy Chairman role for Tanganyika.

In a statement to the media, Lissu shared that he had submitted a formal letter to the party’s Secretary-General, explaining his change of plans.

Reflecting on the party’s leadership history, Lissu mentioned the intentional succession process established by the founding members, Mzee Mtei and Mzee Makani. According to Lissu, the founding leaders set in motion reforms to allow younger, dynamic members to assume more prominent roles in the party.

These constitutional changes, he explained, were aimed at fostering new leadership and ensuring the party’s future remains vibrant and inclusive.

Lissu expressed confidence in his ability to lead the party, citing his qualifications and dedication to the values embedded in CHADEMA’s constitution. “I believe I am well-prepared and qualified to take on the role of National Chairman, and I look forward to contributing to the party’s growth,” he said.

His decision to pursue the National Chairmanship is seen by many within the party as a positive move. Lissu’s experience and vision are viewed as essential for guiding CHADEMA through the next phase of its political journey, with a focus on inclusivity and strengthening the party’s presence in Tanzania’s political landscape.
