North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is preparing to visit Russia later this year for discussions with President Vladimir Putin, signaling closer ties between the two nations.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko confirmed the visit, though an exact date and location have yet to be announced.
This meeting comes at a time of deepening military and economic cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang. In recent months, North Korea has reportedly increased its support for Russia, with reports suggesting that thousands of North Korean troops have been sent to aid Russian operations. Additionally, Pyongyang has supplied Moscow with weapons, including ballistic missiles and artillery systems, raising concerns among Western nations.
The growing relationship between Russia and North Korea has not gone unnoticed. The United States and its allies have warned that deeper military cooperation between the two countries could further destabilize global security. There are also concerns that Russia, in return for North Korea’s military assistance, may provide advanced technology to Pyongyang, potentially aiding its weapons programs.

Kim’s visit follows a series of high-level exchanges, including a recent meeting between Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and North Korean officials. During that meeting, Kim reaffirmed his country’s strong support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, further solidifying the alliance between the two nations.
While no official date has been set, analysts believe Kim’s trip could coincide with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations in May or the Eastern Economic Forum in September. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening military ties, economic cooperation, and diplomatic coordination.
As tensions continue to rise on the global stage, Kim’s upcoming visit to Russia will be closely watched. It marks another step in the growing alignment between Moscow and Pyongyang, a partnership that could have significant implications for international security and diplomatic efforts worldwide.
