Heavy rains in Dar es Salaam have once again turned the Jangwani area along Morogoro Road into a flooded zone, making it impassable for vehicles and causing major disruptions for commuters.
The flooding, which began around 4 PM, forced authorities to issue an urgent travel advisory, urging road users to seek alternative routes.
In a statement, officials advised motorists to use alternative roads such as Bagamoyo Road, Kawawa Road, Nyerere Road, and Mandela Road to access or leave the city center and Kariakoo. The flooding, a recurring problem in the area, often brings traffic to a standstill whenever heavy rains hit the city.
As the rain subsided, police officers were deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent any incidents. While pedestrians and motorcycles were cautiously allowed to pass, larger vehicles were directed to use alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in the waterlogged roads.

Amid Winter
Jangwani has long been known as a flood-prone area due to its location within the Msimbazi River Basin, which collects rainwater from a vast catchment area. Despite various proposals to elevate roads and improve drainage, the problem persists, causing repeated disruptions every rainy season.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging residents and commuters to stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions. In the meantime, travelers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid flooded areas whenever possible.
