The Tanzania Police Force has opened a formal investigation into the alleged abduction of former diplomat Humphrey Polepole, following explosive claims made by his brother, Augustino Polepole, that have gripped the nation and fueled online speculation just weeks before the country’s general elections.
According to a statement released on Monday, the police confirmed that a case file was opened on October 6, 2025, and that investigators are gathering evidence to verify the allegations. Authorities say they are seeking Augustino to provide his statement and cooperate with the ongoing inquiry, after social media reports linked a police officer to the alleged kidnapping.
“The investigation is underway, and all relevant information is being collected,” police officials said, warning the public against spreading unverified claims that might compromise their work.
In a heartfelt interview with local media, AnnaMary Polepole, the mother of the former ambassador, could not hide her anguish. “I just want my son back—whether alive or not,” she said tearfully. “No parent should go through this pain without answers.” Her words have since resonated across social networks, prompting renewed calls for transparency and justice.
Preliminary findings suggest that the alleged abduction took place at a residence where Humphrey was believed to be living. Police continue to verify this claim while investigating the individuals reportedly involved.
