President John Mahama has announced that Ghana will provide 1,000 scholarships for students from ECOWAS member states to study at universities in Ghana.
He made this announcement during the official launch of the ECOWAS at 50 celebrations at the Accra International Conference Centre.
According to Mahama, this initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to fostering regional integration and development through education and empowering the youth.

“To commemorate this occasion and enhance regional ties, Ghana is offering 1,000 scholarships to tertiary students from the sub-region to study at our universities,” President Mahama announced .
He emphasized that this initiative highlights Ghana’s commitment to promoting unity, cooperation, and capacity building within the sub-region as ECOWAS celebrates its golden jubilee.
“This is more than just a gesture; it is an act of solidarity. It serves as a bridge to a future where our youth will view one another not as foreigners, but as partners,” he stated.
The ECOWAS at 50 launch attracted leaders and dignitaries from across the West African bloc, who gathered in Accra to reflect on the achievements of the regional body and chart a new path for peace, security, and prosperity.
The official logo for the anniversary was also unveiled as part of the event.
