Kenya’s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has spoken out about missing key national events typically attended by government officials and President William Ruto.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Friday, Gachagua revealed that he and his team were recently removed from a WhatsApp group that provides the President’s schedule, suggesting this might be an attempt to hinder his participation in national matters.

He claimed that President Ruto’s private secretary, Reuben Miayo, excluded his team from the group a week ago, leaving them uninformed and unable to attend the President’s functions.

“About a week ago, we were removed from the schedule, so we haven’t been able to keep track of what’s going on and therefore cannot participate. When I know where the President is, I make sure to be there. If I don’t know, there’s nothing I can do,” Gachagua stated.

He explained that the WhatsApp group is the primary channel through which they receive daily schedules. However, both he, his private secretary, and his chief of staff were removed, leaving them unaware of the President’s itinerary.

Gachagua suggested that his exclusion seems aimed at preventing him from attending national events or causing him to arrive late, thereby painting him as disrespectful or neglectful of his duties.

He called upon the President’s office and relevant authorities to allow his team to be reintegrated into the President’s schedule, emphasizing his role as the second-highest official in the country and his responsibility to serve the citizens effectively.
