Electric Train From Dar es Salaam To Dodoma To Start Next Week

The express high-speed train on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma is expected to commence next Thursday, with a journey time of three hours and 25 minutes for the entire trip.

This launch will impact the regular SGR train service from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro. According to Jamila Mbarouk, Head of Public Relations at Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), the express train will start operations on July 25 this year, departing Dar es Salaam at 12:00 PM and arriving in Dodoma at 3:25 PM.

The announcement also stated that the regular SGR train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, which previously departed at 12:00 PM, will now depart at 3:30 PM.

“The express train will depart Dar es Salaam at 12:00 PM and depart Dodoma at 5:30 AM. The regular train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro will depart Dar es Salaam at 3:30 AM and 10:00 PM, and from Morogoro at 3:50 AM and 10:20 PM,” said Mbarouk.

According to the information provided, train services will operate daily, including weekends and weekdays.

Mbarouk also mentioned that tickets for all train services are available online and at SGR stations.

The express train service from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma starts approximately one month and 11 days after the commencement of the SGR train service from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, which began on June 14, 2024.

The express train will only stop at Morogoro and then Dodoma, whereas the regular service will stop at smaller stations including Pugu.

Fares for the regular train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma (444 km) will be Sh. 31,000, while the express train fares range between Sh. 70,000 and Sh. 120,000 depending on the passenger class chosen, either business or royal.
