The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Developments (EBID) has approved five financing operations worth more than €269.55 million and $200 million to support infrastructure, healthcare, renewable energy and private-sector development projects across West Africa.

The approvals were made during the bank’s 100th Board of Directors meeting held on August 13 and chaired by EBID President George Agyekum Donkor.

Among the approved projects is €143.06 million in financing for the construction and rehabilitation of the 84-kilometre Cissela–Banko–N’Dèma and Banko–Saraya roads in Guinea.

The bank also approved €65.87 million for the construction of a 200-bed regional hospital in Siguiri, Guinea, aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to medical services in the region.

A further €60.62 million was approved for the 11-megawatt Tinkisso II Hydropower Project, which is expected to contribute to the expansion of renewable energy capacity and improve electricity supply.

In Ghana, EBID approved a $150 million credit facility for Maripoma Enterprise Limited to finance eight road and bridge projects. The investment is expected to support transport connectivity and improve infrastructure linking communities and economic centres.

The bank also approved a $50 million subordinated loan facility for WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc in Sierra Leone, supporting the development of the financial and insurance sector.

EBID said the approvals are aligned with its Growth, Resilience and Optimisation Strategy for 2026–2030, which seeks to accelerate structural transformation across West Africa through strategic investment.

The strategy places emphasis on infrastructure development, healthcare, renewable energy and private-sector growth as key drivers of sustainable economic development and regional integration.

The latest financing package highlights EBID’s continued role in supporting major development projects across ECOWAS member states, while strengthening infrastructure and economic resilience in the region.

The bank said the approved operations are expected to contribute to improved connectivity, expanded access to essential services, increased energy capacity and stronger private-sector activity across West Africa.
