A disagreement over who would cook dinner turned deadly in the Manyanya village of Chunya District, Mbeya, when 30-year-old Mussa Basuka allegedly struck his friend, Issa Mohamed, also 30, in a heated argument.
The incident took place on February 18, 2025, in their shared rented room, where the two had been drinking.
According to the Mbeya Police, Basuka and Mohamed had been living together and were arguing about their household duties—specifically, who would take on the task of preparing dinner. Mohamed was supposed to cook, while Basuka was assigned the task of fetching water. In the midst of the dispute, Basuka reportedly punched Mohamed in the head, causing a fatal injury.
Police Acting Commander, ACP Wilbert Siwa, confirmed that Basuka was arrested shortly after the incident. He expressed regret over the outcome, noting that such tragedies often arise from situations that could be handled differently with more patience and communication.
“This tragedy highlights how quickly things can escalate when disagreements are not handled calmly,” said ACP Siwa. “We urge people to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid resorting to violence, no matter how small the issue may seem.”
