Dar es Salaam’s Deputy Mayor and Kinyerezi Ward Councillor, Hon. John Ryoba Mrema, continues to bring tangible progress and hope to residents of Kinyerezi, fulfilling campaign promises and demonstrating hands-on leadership since taking office.

One of Mrema’s most visible initiatives has been improving local infrastructure. Shortly after assuming office, he launched the “Open the Streets” campaign, focusing on repairing and upgrading roads that had long been impassable, particularly for vehicles such as motorcycles, bajajis, and cars. Residents witnessed crews grading, resurfacing, and leveling several of the most neglected streets earlier this week, a move widely praised for making daily travel safer and more convenient.

Mrema also emphasized education and community engagement. He recently attended a meeting with teachers, parents, and students at Ari Secondary School
in Kinyerezi, where discussions centered on improving student performance in the 2026 academic year and addressing challenges such as school meals and classroom facilities. He provided a platform for parents to raise concerns directly with local leadership and encouraged their active participation in supporting children’s learning.

During the meeting, Mrema personally donated 100 kilograms of rice to bolster the school feeding programme. He also pledged to provide 10 new chairs for the computer lab, addressing the shortage that had limited students’ access to digital learning. Parents highlighted the need for improved outdoor infrastructure, including leveled grounds for parades and activities, prompting Mrema to instruct city engineers to prepare and level the schoolyard, ensuring students can use the space safely.

Mrema urged parents to support teachers in monitoring student progress and emphasized collaboration to create a nurturing learning environment. His approach reflects a broader vision of community-centered governance, where education, infrastructure, and citizen engagement work hand in hand.

The meeting was also attended by the local Member of Parliament for Segerea, Hon. Agnesta Kaiza
, who echoed Mrema’s commitment to community development and also contributed 100 kilograms of rice to support the school’s feeding programme. Their joint presence reinforced a shared commitment to improving education and welfare for students.

Ari Secondary School’s headteacher charles Mapunda  expressed heartfelt gratitude to both leaders, commending Mrema for his vision and dedication. Parents and students echoed this appreciation, highlighting the Deputy Mayor’s practical approach to problem-solving and the tangible improvements witnessed in Kinyerezi. They encouraged him to continue his proactive leadership, emphasizing that his efforts have strengthened trust in local governance and improved quality of life in the ward.

Under Hon. John Ryoba Mrema’s stewardship, Kinyerezi Ward residents are experiencing meaningful change — better roads, enhanced school facilities, and active engagement between leaders and the community — fostering optimism and a sense of shared progress.
