Chumi Urges Ministry Officials to Enhance Skills

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Cosato Chumi, has called on senior officials within the Ministry to intensify their efforts and professionalism in performing their duties.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day Diplomatic Communication training session at St. Gaspar, Dodoma, Chumi emphasized the importance of enhancing the capacity of Ministry employees, particularly in dealing with regional and international issues.

The training, held from October 8 to 11, aims to equip senior officials with essential diplomatic skills, such as information gathering, analysis, and maintaining national confidentiality. Chumi highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry and retired ambassadors who continue to share their expertise with the Ministry’s employees. “These ambassadors have practical experience in diplomacy, and their knowledge is invaluable in helping our employees perform their duties more effectively,” Chumi remarked.

The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the ambassadors, noting that their mentorship continues to shape the Ministry’s progress. He also emphasized that the training would help officials better implement the country’s foreign policy, particularly its focus on economic diplomacy.

Ambassador Bertha Semu Somi, Secretary of the Retired Ambassadors, echoed Chumi’s sentiments, stating that building the capacity of Ministry staff remains a source of pride for retired diplomats. She commended the government’s investment in developing their diplomatic abilities and welcomed the opportunity to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of officials. Somi noted that participants have already demonstrated their commitment by delivering presentations that reflect their understanding of the training material.

Participants have been encouraged to further develop their skills by familiarizing themselves with key documents such as the country’s Foreign Policy, National Development Plans, and international conventions.
