Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has officially announced a change in the timeline for selecting its candidates for parliamentary, local council, and Zanzibar House of Representatives seats ahead of Tanzania’s 2025 General Election.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, by the party’s Secretary General, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel John Nchimbi. According to the new timetable, the internal nomination process will now begin on June 28 at 2:00 a.m. and wrap up on July 2 at 10:00 p.m. This update marks a shift from the earlier schedule that was issued on April 10.

Dr. Nchimbi said the decision to adjust the dates came after extensive feedback from party members across the country. He noted that the leadership took time to reflect, analyze, and carefully consider the opinions raised before making the final call to push the timeline slightly forward.

“This change is not about altering the process, but about giving it more room to breathe,” said Nchimbi in the statement. “We’re listening to our members. This is their party. We want to get it right.”

He assured the public and party faithful that the internal selection will continue to follow the same procedures previously outlined, and that transparency, fairness, and adherence to party regulations remain at the core of the process.

The new timeline gives aspiring candidates a few extra weeks to prepare and mobilize support within the party, as CCM looks to field competitive contenders in what is expected to be a hotly contested general election.

CCM also used the statement to underline its ongoing commitment to internal democracy, stating that the revised schedule is part of a broader effort to strengthen the credibility of its nomination process and ultimately reflect the will of its grassroots supporters.

“This is not just about picking names to put on a ballot,” Nchimbi added. “It’s about choosing leaders who carry the aspirations of the people and who can help push Tanzania forward.”

As the country inches closer to the October 2025 General Election, all eyes are on major political players. For CCM, the decision to revise its internal election calendar signals a strategic and inclusive approach to leadership selection—one that puts unity, preparedness, and public trust first.

The coming weeks will now serve as a crucial window for dialogue and decision-making within the ruling party, as it shapes the team that will represent its legacy and future direction.
