Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango has called on the private sector to support the government’s clean cooking energy access program.
Dr. Mpango commended Oryx Gas Tanzania Limited for their leadership in providing gas cylinders to communities as part of their contribution to the government’s clean cooking energy program.
During a women’s symposium aimed at providing capital and equipment for clean cooking energy, the Vice President urged the private sector to help ensure that both rural and urban communities have access to clean cooking facilities.
The government aims for 80% of cooking in the country to be powered by clean energy sources by 2032, as currently, 90% of energy supplied to Tanzanian homes comes from firewood and charcoal, leading to health and environmental challenges.
Dr. Mpango emphasized the importance of private sector investment in research and innovation for clean energy cooking solutions. He highlighted the collaboration between Oryx Gas Tanzania and the Dorris Mollel Foundation in supporting women across the country.
Managing Director of Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd, Benoit Araman, stated that the company has already distributed 24,000 cooking solutions valued at 2 billion TZS to various women’s groups. He expressed commitment to implementing the President’s vision of achieving 80% clean energy access by 2032.
Cooking with LPG is helping Tanzanians transition from biomass fuels like firewood and charcoal to gas, improving lives and reducing health risks associated with indoor air pollution. Oryx Gas Tanzania is dedicated to supporting clean cooking initiatives and thanked Vice President Dr. Mpango and the government for their support in promoting LPG use in Dodoma and Tanzania as a whole.
