The fifth edition of the annual Kilimo Biashara Expo in Gairo District, Morogoro Region, is scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 3, 2026, with organisers expecting the event to create new economic opportunities for farmers and livestock keepers.

Morogoro Regional Commissioner Queen Cuthbert Sendiga announced the preparations for the expo on October 7 during a press conference at the Regional Commissioner’s Office, saying the event is designed to strengthen commercial agriculture, modern livestock production and household incomes.

Sendiga said the expo will provide farmers and livestock keepers with practical knowledge on modern production methods while creating opportunities to access agricultural inputs, improved seeds and information on the proper use of pesticides.

She described the event as an important platform for connecting producers with knowledge, markets, financial institutions and other stakeholders involved in the agricultural value chain.

The Regional Commissioner also highlighted the impact of the expo over the past four years, saying more than 130,000 farmers and 7,000 livestock keepers have been reached through the initiative. The beneficiaries have received training and information aimed at improving production methods and strengthening their participation in commercial agriculture and livestock keeping.

More than 2,500 farmers have also been registered in the subsidised agricultural-input system and provided with education on proper post-harvest handling and storage of crops, according to Sendiga.

The 2026 edition is expected to build on those achievements by bringing together farmers, livestock keepers, agricultural experts, financial institutions, development partners and other actors in the agricultural sector.

Beyond production, the expo is also expected to focus on the wider economic value of agriculture, particularly the need for farmers to move from subsistence production toward commercially oriented farming.

Access to quality inputs, appropriate technologies, reliable markets and financial services remains important for improving productivity and enabling small-scale producers to increase their earnings. Agricultural exhibitions such as the Gairo event provide an opportunity for farmers to interact directly with institutions and businesses offering such services.

Sendiga also used the occasion to encourage residents to adopt clean cooking energy, including gas and electricity, as part of efforts to protect the environment and reduce the effects of climate change.

She urged residents, development partners and financial institutions to support the expo and ensure that low-income communities are able to benefit from the economic opportunities created through agriculture and livestock production.

The call comes as Tanzania continues to promote agricultural transformation, with greater emphasis on productivity, value addition, access to markets and private-sector participation in the agricultural value chain.

For Gairo, the annual expo is expected to serve not only as an agricultural exhibition but also as a platform for linking rural producers with knowledge, technology, finance and markets.

With the fifth edition scheduled for October 30 to November 3, organisers are positioning the event as a key opportunity for farmers and livestock keepers in Gairo and surrounding areas to learn, establish business connections and explore new ways of turning agricultural production into sustainable income.
